Kuwait New Law of Copyright and Press

7/3/2006

It is the first step in hundred miles way towards freedom. It is also a hole in the wall of steeling liberty Laws. Al-Ommah Council (Kuwait Parliament) unanimously agreed upon "The New Law of Copyright and Press". The law included several reforms. The most important of which is eliminating the illegal imprisonment of journalists, developing the regulations related to media and press stuff and to protect them against any arbitrary administration practices. This law allows for the first time since thirty years publishing daily newspapers in addition to the existing five magazines. If the prison is still open to receive judicially sentenced journalist in Kuwait, will those journalists struggle soon to eliminate prison punishment for what they write as happening in Egypt now? We hope so.
