9/7/2005

July 1, 2005 the Criminal Court of Tem city, southern of France stated an imprison sentence of ten years on the Mauritanian Official (Ali Weld Aldah, 42 years old) for committing torture crimes against Mauritanian black soldiers in 1991.

the soldiers were suspected of participating in a COP attempt against the president Mouauia Weld Sidi Ahmed Altayeh. Weld Aldah, according to the court decision, has to recompense the victims of the torture crimes and also the human rights associations.

The court argued to activate the international search file to bring Weld Adlah to the prison.
This trail is the first of its kind in France.

Five Mauritanians had complained to the human rights federation against Ali Weld Adlah due to the New Yourk Convention regarding terrorism, signed in December, 1994. The trail is considered the first interpretation in the French Courts of the principle of "The International Mandate" which allowed to arresting the General Augosto Benochee, former president of Chile in London 1998.
