22/5/2005

For the first time
30 professors formed a committee for freedoms in the university to support its independence and face the governmental interference in its affairs.

The professors in their statement confirmed that the university leads the community to civilization and that the teaching staff is the main dynamo and the backbone of university as they are the thinking mind of the nation, and the responsible for raising the generations.

Based on all this they must stop the deterioration which the universities witness now as a result of the security interference till it became a militant camp and they called for electing the university leaders and improve the teaching staff conditions financially and morally and not to approve the new universities law till they run a democratic dialogue around it and discussing the law with the teaching staffs.

The committee will work on accomplish these aims through a weekly meeting at the teaching staff club ,Alexandria university
