Turkey investigates with 83 thousands police officers for violating human rights.
13/3/2005
The Turkish authorities opened investigations with 83 thousands police officers committed human rights violations. This is a step in the frame of a large campaign to beautify the picture of police officers in Turkey.
The campaign began as a result of the bitter criticizes for the Turkish police and human rights violations, torture and citizens abuse.
The criticizes came from national and international communities especially the EU.
Security sources had confirmed that investigations had been opened with 83 thousands officers all over Turkey among 172 thousands in the country which means more than 45% of the police forces since the beginning of January 2000 till January 2005.
The sources added that the suite cases filed against police officers counted 5170. As a result for this 1436 police officers had been dismissed permanently and 15 thousands had been temporarily dismissed besides stopping the salaries of 16 thousands and 400 officers.
