Moroccan Law to punish Torturers

The Moroccan court has accepted a new law project to punish all those who torture prisoners.
According to the "France Press", The torturers will face an imprisonment sentence up to 30years, but not less than 5 years.
A trusted resource mentioned that the new law ordains that "those who commit sexual abuse pre or post- torture and those who torture minors, Older people, Handicapped or Pregnant women, will face a 25years imprisonment.
It also says that those who" encourage, Accept or Hide" such torture-in-prison incidents will be deprived from their social and civil Rights, and will have to pay a fee of 30,000 dirham( about 2700Euro).
Mr. Nabil Ben Abdallah, minister of Communication, declared that the New Law totally corresponds with the International Covenants for Combating Torture, which define torture as" any act by which severe pain or suffering, whether physical or mental, is intentionally inflicted on an prisoner".
The Law project, if approved by the government, will be presented to the Cabinet then transferred to the Parliament to be declared.
Only few days before, about 12 Moroccan testified in an interview for the Moroccan television, that they have been severely tortured and humiliated during the political depression period
The Moroccan and International Human Rights Organizations have severely condemned the torture cases that the Islamists had to face during the arrestment movement that followed the bomb explosions in Casa Blanca on the 16th of May, 2003.
