Saturday 17th May, 2008
“ Tomorrow, Bolaq Misdemeanors Court will held the first appeal session on the case of Ibrahim Issa, editor-in-Chief of Al-Dustour independent daily newspaper, at the Cairo-North Abbassya Primary Court, appealing against the judgment issued on last 26th of March, which handed down 6 months in prison sentence in the so-called “President Health Case”.” , said the Arabic Network for Human Rights today.
“While Al-Dustour Newspaper will be in trail tomorrow, represented in its editor-in-chief, its official website will be launched today on the internet entitled: http://www.dostor.org, responding to its nationwide readers and the international audience as well, who find it difficult to obtain a hard copy of it, as well as avoiding the harassment it suffers within and outside Egypt.
According to Issam Abu Issa, Legal Consultant of Al-Dustour newspaper, there are up to 35 cases against Al-Dustour newspaper and its journalists brought before courts already, which is a large number, indicates clearly the difficulties that this newspaper suffers under the suppression of the notorious press freedom- antagonistic regime.
“With such an audacious newspaper as Al-Dustour , the legal support solely is never adequate, and the Arabic Network Team would provide extra support, so the technical unit leaders Mohamed Ragab and Ahmed Abu saif have volunteered establishing the new web site of Al-Dustour , as a humble inventive expression of their support to the newspaper through.”, said Gamal Eid- the executive director of the Arabic Network for Human Rights Information.
Assuring its constant denunciation of trail the journalists and writers, punishing them by imprisonment in publishing crimes, the Arabic Network is calling on the civil society and the institutions those defend the press freedoms in Egypt and the world, to support Ibrahim Issa and Al-Dustour Newspaper, since it is regarded as one of the main newspapers in the Arab world, that manifestly devoted its efforts to defend the democracy and citizens rights.
