A police force from Imbaba Police station arrested Hamdi Me'bed, an activist in The Land Center for Human Rights as well as Howayda Taha the TV producer and director of Al-Jazeera news channel, along with the rest of the programme crew which is composed of three members, during their preparation & filming a documentary entitled 'under shadow' on itinerant workers, peasants and the marginalized people. The working crew went at 4 am at dawn today to the village of "Nikla" in Imbaba district in order to be able to meet with workers and peasants who go to work at this early time. In the course of filming the documentary, they were surprisingly surrounded by a police force who arrested her and her colleagues, as well as Hamdy Me'bed the human rights activist.
They have been taken to the headquarters of Imbaba police station and a record is being filed now against her and rest of the her crew. It is worth noting that she has got the necessary permissions of the censorship.
The organizations signing this statement declares their solidarity with the working crew of Al-Jazeera News channel, and call for their release immediately. The signing organizations can see that such measures aim only at aggression on the freedom of opinion and expression, and also the organizations are having strong concerns that this intended arbitariness against Howayda Taha comes in retaliation because of her previous documentary on torture in Egyptian police stations.
