More punching under the belt
Essa's case received more blows
Cairo, 25 September, 2007
The Arabic Network for Human Rights Information (HRInfo) condemned today the suspicious measures taken by the Egyptian authorities to pave the way to a flawed trail to victimize Al-Dostur's boss Ibrahim Essa. These measures manifested in denying the defense team to examine the case's file and leaking out rumors about transferring the case against Essa to the state emergency court which lacks any guarantees of fair trail.
Although Essa's case made it to court in an unprecedented time, yet there was more to come as the defense team which includes HRInfo was unable to examine the case's files, the case is due before court next week, alleging that the court hasn't received the files and raising suspicions about rumors indicating that Essa's case will be transferred to the state emergency court. HRInfo learnt that those rumors were communicated to Al-Dostut as Ibrahim Mansour, Al-Dostur's executive editor reported earlier.
HRInfo is calling again upon the civil society, the Egyptian and international public to stand hand in hand with Al-Dostur and Ibrahim Essa against this barbaric attack that might destroy one of the most prominent newspapers in the Arab world.
