    Tunisia

    Assaults
    Human rights organizations condemned the escalation in police assaults on lawyers, recently a member of traffic police assaulted Ali Ben Mansour, lawyer, by using deterring spray while kicking him . the assault took place September 21.there were other assaults on lawyers during this year.

    Ayashy Homamy's office was set on fire on 30th August 2007, ElTaher ElTayeb was roughed up by the police on 2nd September 2007, Tarik Obaidy faced death threats on 6th April 2007 and on 14th April 2007 Raouf Ayadey was assaulted by the police inside court.

    Emergency laws and special courts
    Syrians have been living under emergency laws and military courts. human rights organizations marked the sixth anniversary of what is called" Damascus spring" when many protesters were detained after making calls for democratic change and taking measures against corruption.

    Assassinating journalists happen on daily basis and goes uncovered by the media, the last victim among journalist was the Baghdad based AlBaghdadia's Jawad AlDaemy

    Palestine
    ========
    Prisoners Israeli government released 91 prisoners as a gesture of good-will while there are still 385 children prisoner as in the case of Bara and Ghada who are living with their mother in Talmond prison for women. Many Palestinian prisoners are suffering form chronic and severe medical problems, many have been kept behind bars for more than 20 years.

    Egypt
    ========
    Repressive measures
    Ghazl Mahalla workers launched a strike protesting against the deteriorating conditions and scarce wages. Security forces detained five workers for allegedly masterminding the strikes. 2 journalists from the opposition Wafd newspaper were accused of inciting the strikes.

    On other account, Warrak criminal court sentenced 3 journalists from Al-Wafd for 2 years in prison for committing defamation and libel against the minister of justice after covering a news-story, given that the paper ran the minister's response in full.

    Yemen

    Protests
    For several months, Yemeni cities especially in the eastern and southern governorate are seeing protests and strikes against corruption practices and discrimination against people from southern governorate. Yemeni authorities responded by shooting live rounds and abducting journalists leading the coalition of the civil society to call upon the Yemeni government to act in compliance with international treaties on human rights .

    The Arabic Network for Human Rights

    Trail and imprisonment
    HRInfo criticized article 102 of the criminal law as it is used as pretext for persecuting journalists as what happened last week when 3 journalists fro AlWafd newspaper including the editor in chief were sentenced to 2 years in prison. The Egyptian government insists on leaving this article the way it is in order to use it against journalist belonging to non-pro-government newspapers.
