    ========
    Freedom of Information
    Human rights activists and organizations in the Arab world and world wide condemned the verdict issued by Ras kheima criminal court early this month against Mr. Rashid Shouhi, Majan.net boss, he was sentenced for one year in prison and 50,000 Dirham fine and another 20,000 Dirham to be paid to an official. The website was also shut-down and Mr.Khalid Asly, an editor in Majan.net was imprisoned. 21 Human rights activists are launching a solidarity campaign with Shouhi and Asly(zorba_uae@hotmail.com) as they condemned the verdict for its lack of objectivity and unconstitutionality. They issued a statement in which they called for dropping the sentence against Shouhi and to end Asly's arbitrary detention and to release them immediately. HRINFO's statement (harsh blow dealt to freedom of expression in U.A.E- website's boss jailed and an editor detained) talked about the court procedures
    and said that HRINFO stands hand in hand with those brave writers and journalists. And it behooves the United Emirates to take pride in those participating in Majan.net instead of incarcerating them for their critical writing and their right to exercise to freedom of expression.
    Internationally, RSF issued two statements concerning this issue, in the first it urged the authorities to drop the charges and in the second it condemned the judge's refusal to release Shoui until the appeal hearing is due.
