Tunisia

Report
Tunisia Monitoring Group issues its fourth report, which states the lack of principal human rights in Tunisia such as right to freedom of expression, transport, organization, scientific research, exchanging information and establishing associations without the government's authority. In the democratic countries practicing law state, human rights respected. Unfortunately, the Tunisian state has no concern about this issue. Moreover still human rights organizations, freedom of expression organizations and international society must do more effort to monitor improvements in human rights and freedom of expression in Tunisia.

Just Prosecution The International Society for the Support of Political Prisoners issues a statement on the danger encounters hundreds of Tunisian youth for the unjust prosecutions due to judging according to an exceptional law does not provide the minimum rights. The statement describes also the assaults done against some lawyers inside the court. Moreover, the continuous assaults against these lawyers will confirm on the constitutionality of the policy of threat to halt their activities. On the other hand, the National Council for Liberties on the same occasion called for prosecuting and condemning the responsible authority, while he refused the Tunisian authorities' attempt to hold political prosecutions in closed sessions and depriving activists, observers and journalists from attending the sessions. It also called upon Tunisian Judges to hold just prosecutions and stop the political police office's authority on the court.

    Algeria

    Condemnation
    Two statements covers the bombings happened in the capital of Algeria today resulting 23 dead bodies and more than 160 injured people. The incident covered by the Amnesty International and the Tunisian League for the Defense of Human Rights. The latter referred to the legality and necessity of combating terrorism but with means of respect for citizens' principal rights and the participation of the society to settle democratic rules and human rights principles.

    Syria
    ========
    Prosecutions
    Force and revenge logic is a constitutional system for the Syrian Authority, against Michel Kelo, Anwar El Bony, Faeq El Meir and Mahmoud Eisa because they signed Damascus declaration. In consequence, the authorities prosecuted Michel Kelo - arrested for a year- on 18 April, the session held delegation of lawyers from The International Committee for Supporting Michel Kilo.

    In the occasion of the verdict of three years imprisonment with hard labor stated against five citizens because of a conversation in a coffee. The Human Rights Association in Syria demands abolishing military order n. 2 / 1963 practiced within the state of emergency and settling the normal judiciary with more independence to the Judiciary and confirming on neutrality of judiciary especially on political cases. In light of the continues practicing to the state of emergence, The Human Rights Association in Syria calls for respecting the system of publicity in the State Security Court.

    ========
    Journalists and Media Workers
    On 11 April, the TV reporter Eman Yousef and her husband murdered and burned in their private car, the news condemned by Press Freedoms Observatory statement. In another statement, it condemned the violations done by US and Iraqi armed forces against journalists in Diwania city to practice the policy of repression. The third statement demands releasing the photographer Bilal Hussien, photographer in a news agency, the US forces arrested him for more than one year without a clear accusation. The Iraqi Society for the Defense of the Rights of Journalists demands the protection for some journalists from Al- Basra Governorate threatened by armed forces to prevent the press coverage to the incidents.

    Palestine
    ========
    Destiny of the Journalist Alan Johnson
    An anonymous group calling itself "Kataeb Al - Tawhid wa Al- Jihad declares its responsibility for the assassination of Alan Johnson the kidnapped hostage since 12 March. The group declared so because the demands they asked for have not taken into consideration. In consequence, to the case of the kidnapped Johnson, The Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms (Mada) issues a statement in the occasion of one month since Johnson kidnapped and puts questions on the possibility of kidnapping since this day. Moreover, Gaza Strip - despite its small area and the sources descriptions to its series attempts - authorities failed until now to discover the riddles of this crime.

    The statement rely this accident to the phenomenon of lack of security by the Palestinian government in the last few years.
    The Current week, Reporters without Boarders issues a statement expressing its deep concern on Alan Johnson's destiny and calls upon the Authority to make efforts to find his place and release him, moreover in another statement it denies violence practiced on journalists during a demonstration on 17 April in Gaza to free Palestinians and three journalists were injured.

    Prisoner Day
    Palestinian Prisoner Day is on 17 April, in which The Mandela Institute for Human Rights bade welcome to all prisoners in the Israeli prisons and their endured families and relatives. Moreover, The Jerusalem Center for Democracy and Human Rights issues a statement on the unjust circumstances and treatment for the Palestinian and Arab Prisoners in the Israeli prisons and detention places. They lack the principal needs and they are subject to regular torture and inhuman treatment, which violates the human international law and human rights law.

    Security Lack of Control
    The National Organization for Democracy and Law issues a statement monitoring numbers of victims murdered and injured due to security lack of control. It calls upon the Ministry of Interior to hold immediate procedures to stop the grave situation from the wide spread security lack of control. On the other hand, it calls for an immediate planning to the security organization and finally it calls upon the Palestinian Legislative Council to stand to protect human rights and practice the law for every citizen without exceptions because the law is the only bail for citizens' rights and dignity.

    Egypt

    Violations Systems
    Thousands of Egyptians arrested in the name of security and detained without a charge or a prosecution for many years, in most cases, the court issued a release verdict to the detainees while others sentenced in cruel prosecutions. This was an example to the system of violations to human rights practiced by the Egyptian authorities under the pretence of the national security. The Amnesty International in Cairo issued a report calling the government in Egypt to make sure that Combating Terrorism Law not issued to systemize human rights violations.

    Civil Society
    The Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch Organization issues this week criticism to the Egyptian government where Amnesty issued a report and Watch issues a statement condemning the government's practices against The Center for Trade Union and Workers' Services CTUWS using bureaucracy system to close the center. In consequence, workers' strikes are continuing all over Egypt, 222 strikes, sit in and demonstrations in the year 2006. The most serious strike was by fabric workers in Al- Mahal Al- Qobra Factory in December 2006. The statement also declared closing two offices belong to an organization for workers' rights will not stop the strikes, added that the government must do its duty to protect the Egyptian workers instead of searching for a scapegoat to rely on the responsibility. Moreover, it calls the government in Egypt to finish the practices done against CTUWS and opens its branches. Finally added, this campaign violates Egypt's obligations to the international law in respecting rights to freedom of organization, assembly and free expression. Though to respect these freedoms, it is necessary not to close CTUWS because of its support to workers' rights.

    Litigation
    The Egyptian Initiative for personal Rights appealed in the court on the Prime Minister's decision to establish a receipt company for health care and transferring both hospitals and clinics of the health insurance to a be relevant companies. The litigation no. 61/21665 demands an immediate stop this decision to cancel it. Moreover, the decision issued without quality and it was not discussed in the Peoples Assembly in addition to violating responsibility to protect citizens' right to health guaranteed by the Egyptian Constitution, the international covenant for economic social and cultural rights and the African covenant for human rights, which the government signed as a part of the Egyptian legislation.

    Opinion and expression
    The Egyptian security forces broke into the house of Abdel Meneam Mahmoud,27 years old reporter in Al- Hiwar TV and the administrator of the blog "Ana Ikhwan" http://ana-ikhwan.blogspot.com . Both the Arabic Network for Human Rights Information and Reporters without Boarders published statements on the issue this week, which came after two months of the four - years imprisonment verdict practiced against the internet writer Abdel Karim Soliman.

    Both internet writers despite their different views stand together criticizing the President Mubarak authority and continuous human rights violations. Hoping for releasing the two internet writers and respect the right to freedom of exchanging information on the internet. On the other hand, Amnesty International issued a statement on Egypt directing to the President of France - during the visit of Mubarak the President to France - confirming Egypt the President Mubarak violates freedom of the press and exclude the independent voices for having complete silence. It added also in the statement, the president's refusal to amend publications law and give workers in media institutions more guarantees in which they wo Moreover the Egyptian journalists subject rk on the minimum due to the state violation to press freedoms monitored to 35 litigations. Moreover, the Egyptian journalists subjected to five years imprisonment for "publishing inaccurate information, "defaming" the president of Egypt or any other country and "insulting the government's institutions" such as the parliament and the army.

    HRINFO issues this week two statements on the same issue bloggers on the internet, the first, HRINFO is anxious and frightened of the danger against the journalist and blogger Abdel Meneam Mahmoud. The security forces broke into his resident in Alexandria on Friday Dawn to arrest him. A campaign held to arrest 24 Egyptians in Cairo and Alexandria suspected of being members in Muslim Brothers Group.
