Jordan

Freedom of Opinion and Expression
Jordan security apparatus attacked journalists in Al-Ghad TV Channel during a coverage to a sit -in by bus drivers. Four men of the security apparatus confiscated the journalists' instruments of shooting by force. Also after arresting them, the journalists transferred to a prosecution under not less than an hour and a half of investigation, during which the officers practiced verbal abuse using ugly words.

On this context, Amman Center for Human Rights' Studies and the National Committee for Human Rights just finished a training session on freedom of expression, it was done for the media workers in Qatar's capital Al-Doha to give journalists and workers in media information about the right of freedom of expression and how to guarantee it.

Death Penalty and Torture
Amman Center for Human Rights' Studies and International Organization for Criminal Reform working together to form a project continues to two years and funded by the European Commissioner to eliminate death penalty in MENA region, under the title: "Death Penalty: the Deviances and Alternatives"

    Opinion and Expression
    Bahrain Youth Association for Human Rights appealed to six international organizations to take series procedures upon putting down freedom of opinion and expression. Moreover, they appealed to the Egyptian government to refuse a litigation presented by a judge against Gamal Eid, Manal Hassan and Alaa Seif and lift up his immune to litigate against abusing Egyptian human rights' associations and activists. The judge also, stole parts from a book belong to the Arabic Network for Human Rights Information - with direct and indirect means- and writes his name on it without reference. When discovered, he accused HRINFO's of tarnishing the reputation of Egypt and the other countries.

    Tunisia
    ========
    Violations inside and outside prisons
    In five statements (about violations) of the Tunisian human rights organizations published by HRINFO this week, the principal titles was violating political prisoners' dignity, torture phenomenon inside Tunisian prisons, continuous abuse against political and human rights' activists with no reason and also depriving them from traveling.

    Press Conference
    In procedure to the worse state of freedoms in Tunisia, Monitoring Group of Freedom of Expression State in Tunisia related to IFEX International Freedom of Expression Exchange, convene a conference on 11 April to introduce a report on freedom of expression in Tunisia in the same day of its introduce in Paris and Washington.

    Syria
    ========
    Prosecutions
    Two statements published by the Syrian Organization for Human Rights (Swasya) and Human Rights Watch Organization both about the prosecution session of the Syrian activist Dr. Kamal El Buany, founder of the Syrian Liberal Democratic Group were the sentence issue is postponed to 10 May. The first statement presented the details of the prosecution while the second calls for stopping the prosecution, releasing El Buany and abolishing crimes bases on political entities while also the statement calls upon Syrian government to take immediate procedures to provide better circumstances during the detention period.

    Arrests and a Life in Danger
    Human Rights Watch HRW Organization issued a statement about six arrested Iranian refugees and calls for releasing them or find out a proper legal evidence for their detention, by the way, the High Commissioner for Refugees recognizes five of them. HRW also is anxious about transferring the Iranians by force to their country were they would suffer from segregation, in which the Iranian government judged in absentia a death penalty against one of them.

    Journalists and Media Workers
    Human Rights Iraqi and International Organizations issued this week five statements on the issue of "Iraq is a dangerous place for all people especially media workers who are favored what ever the reason could be". Two statements one by international Union for Journalists and the other belong to Reporters without Borders and the third statement belong to Press Freedoms Observatory. The most important subject mentioned was the memory of the death of three journalists by the US forces and finding a dead body of a women journalist.

    Palestine
    ========
    Land Day
    The Palestinian Initiative for Strengthening Universal Dialogue and Democracy mentioned the 59th Anniversary of Yaseen Abbey Massacre in a statement. As a reference: 250 Palestinians murdered in the Yaseen Abbey Village, four Kilometers west from Jerusalem.

    It was also mentioned in the statement the continues crimes practiced against Palestinian people in many ways, this is because the International society failed to punish Israeli war criminals who murdered millions of Palestinian people. While on the contrary, it supports and gives protection to them discarding the Palestinians' suffering.

    Attack by Israel
    Relatively, Al-Mezan (Balance) Center for Human Rights issued also a statement on the occupation forces attack on Gaza Strip during the last two days, in an area east to Beit Hanoun. The incident turn out with the murdering of a person with insist, another was injured and a third arrested. At the same time, some military officials threatened to wage a huge campaign on Gaza Strip, which drops out fear for more human rights violations in the Strip.

    Security Disorder
    The statement of the National Organization for Democracy and Law monitored security disorder this week in which a group of armed persons fired on the head of the public union for Palestinian workers' syndicate in Gaza Strip, he was injured and lost his car. In addition, another group of armed persons stole two cars owned by the General Intelligence Department in the mid area of Gaza Strip.

    Group of Egyptian Non Governmental Organizations convened a conference on the governments' violent intervene against Center for Trade Union and Workers' Services, in which the center received a decision in 29 March 2007 to close its branch in Nagaa Hamady City - Qena Governorate. While the center's branch in Al-Mahala City facing the governments' continues violent, intervene.

    Morocco

    Opinion and Expression
    Committee to Protect Journalists CPJ convened meetings with Moroccan writers, reporters, publishers, heads of local human rights organization and some governmental officials; the prime minister and information minister the spokes man of Moroccan Parliament. The discussion was on the climate of press freedom. During the discussion, the CPJ delegation points to the great number of prosecutions against independent press associations and the fear of preventing or pressuring them.

    Workers Rights
    The Moroccan Association for Human Rights stands against the violations practiced against the National University for Rail Way Workers related to Moroccan Union for Work. These violations discarded workers' rights and freedoms which is guaranteed by international human rights instruments; the two international covenants for civil and political rights and also the economic, social and cultural rights in addition to International Work Organization convention which Morocco signed on it.

    Yemen

    Appeal
    General Coordinator for Criminal International Court's Union appealed to the Yemeni president to celebrate Yemen's joining to the International Criminal Court. In 24 March 2007, the House of Representatives voted for Yemen to be the country no. 105 member in the International Criminal Court and no.4 in membership in the Arab League, which is working on Rome's system with the Criminal International Court.

    Arabic Network for Human Rights Information

    HRINFO issues this week a statement to clear its situation from the litigation presented by the judge Abdel Fatah Mourad against HRINFO Executive Director Gamal Eid and the two bloggers Manal Hassan and Alaa Seif owners of the blog "Manal and Alaa (http://www.manalaa.net). The judge falsely charged the three for blaspheming and slandering him. On the contrary HRINFO did not fear or surrender and will take due concern to punish the judge who violated the right to intellectual property. The incident started when the judge transferred parts from one of HRINFO's reports to his book and signed it without reference. He also deleted paragraphs criticizing some Arab governments who stand against internet usage freedom referring to Tunisia and Saudi Arabia, and presented his opinion with a false reality to these countries by using HRINFO's substances, while in the other countries he transfer it without any changing to the substance including all details (numbers - names - marks …etc).

    The judge then started litigate on fabricated issues to fight HRINFO and its supporters. The completed details of the clash found in the report, also HRINFO at the final part of the report confirmed its good reputation and discarded the judge's fabricated accusations, despite that he has previously praised HRINFO's work in his emails. In order to clear his situation from this accusation beyond public opinion, he turned to litigate against websites, blogs and human rights organizations to manipulate in the principal issue. HRINFO expresses its due concern to all bloggers, journalists and all people who didn't work with HRINFO for their support and concern about freedom of opinion and expression, HRINFO apologizes also for not mentioning their names to avoid getting into a fabricated trial. Finally HRINFO calls the judge to respect the clash and not to get innocent people not members of this clash into a fabricated trial related to this litigation and minimize the clash between the two sides only. HRINFO will proceed in its strong and clear campaign against the judge until he confess and declare his violation to the people's right to intellectual property and manipulation to their words.
