Death Penalty
A symposium was convened this week, held by International Organization for Reform with Amman Institute for Human Rights under the auspices of the European Commissioner. It was on a start of a campaign for combating death penalty under the title "Death Penalty: Challenges and Alternatives" International Instruments, Death Penalty Alternatives in Local and Regional Legislation, Death Penalty in Religion and Human Rights Legislation and Role of Civil Society Organizations in the Movement of Abolishing Death Penalty".

    Bahrain
    ========
    Murder Threat
    Chair of Bahrain Institute for Human Rights, Abd Allah el Khawaga and two activists were put on charge to a punishment of 15 years imprisonment, in the attempt to arouse Bandar Geit scandal. Their attempt discarded the government's campaign to obscure websites and bogs which disclose the scandal. The website of the institute in Bahrain was obscured while the institute itself was dissolved on Year 2004. On the other hand, it was still continuing an NGO for human rights.

    Syria
    ========
    International Campaign
    An attempt to form an international campaign for releasing Meashel Celo held by 33 activists and thinkers. The campaign's mission is release Meashel Celo, thinker and journalist and his colleagues and stops the judicial pursuing. The campaigner defines the existence of Syrian exceptional prosecutions are due to state of emergency which stands still since 1963. In addition, they give support to Syrian activists and democratic thinkers to abolish the state of emergency and release freedom of expression victims.

    Siege
    In Sayeda Zeinab zone in Damascus, police holds a siege on a defendant's family home. The siege is still continuing while the defendant has surrendered and his home family is women, children and the defendant's mother who suffers from a grave illness. Since the previous Wednesday, the family is still locked in the house and they sent an appeal to President Bashar el Assad to stop the siege, moreover one of the sisters has a baby gravely ill and police deprives her from leaving the house.

    Iraq
    ========
    Journalists and Media Representatives
    Three statements issued by Press Freedoms Observatory, respectively; after two days from kidnap a corpse of a television director was found with obvious torture marks, kidnapping a news reporter and his driver working in Radio Degla Broadcast, they were attacked by anonymous armed people in Al- Gamaa (University) Zone and finally, near Al- Khadra (Green) Zone at 8 March 2007 reporter and a photographer working at Al - Horreya satellite channel were arrested: on this context, the Iraqi Institute for Defending Journalists Rights issues on the last news a statement calling Iraqi security forces to release the two of them, identify to the public reasons of arrest and abide by the judicial laws, procedures and rules.

    Palestine

    Alain Johnson
    During this week, three statements issued the news of kidnapping the journalist Alian Johnosn. National Institute for Democracy issued two separate statements and the Palestinian Institute for Development and Media Freedoms (Mada) issued one statement. The three statements expressed the two institutions' anxiousness on the kidnapped journalist and calls on all Palestinian responsible officials to stand with releasing the kidnapped immediately.

    Arab Summit
    68 Palestinian organization, coalition and union call on Arab summit conference to submit right to repatriation of Palestinian refugees and migrants and give refugees their civil rights. Moreover, they must submit better circumstances and human treatment in their asylum settlements and abide the Iraqi government and occupied forces especially (USA forces) the direct and complete responsibility on the ill treatment practiced against Palestinian refugees in Iraq.

    Egypt

    Constitutional Amendments
    Egyptian and international human rights institutions issued more than 30 warning statements on constitutional amendments. They declared the effect of amendments on constitutional protection to human rights. Statements of some institutions also declared the participation in referendum observatory, also reports expresses the lack of voting and the state officials' forgery scandal, moreover the institutions monitored violent assaults and arrests against the opposition and journalists standing against amendments and they called for their release. Despite all the incidents, the amendments were done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Yemen
    ========
    Arab Wedges Forum for Human Rights issued a statement welcoming Yemen's House of Representatives acceptance to Rome principal regime of the International Criminal Court.

    Torture
    Group of villagers of Al- Haymateen Zone held a sit-in before the prosecutor- general office, attempting to release the citizen Shaief el Hemi (arrested without legal prosecution for more than two months). He was subjected to inhuman torture leads to complete immobilization in the right hand and partial immobilization in the left hand, though they are asking for health treatment.

    Disappearance
    HUD Organization asks the Egyptian state office to provide information about a Yemeni student who was arrested in an Egyptian police station and disappeared for three months.

    International and Regional
    ========
    Egyptian Constitution Amendments
    In light of Egypt's constitutional amendments, Amnesty International states that the amendments gives a green card to illegal arrest and torture practices and support the outlawed prosecutions. Moreover it stands against human rights protection and violates Egypt's international duties towards human rights. On the other hand, Human Rights Watch (HRW) issues a statement on its effect on the abolition of principal protections to human rights against violations of privacy, personal freedoms, security of persons and houses and state of judiciary.

    Arabic Network for Human Rights Information
    ========
    Arabic Network for Human Rights Information (HRINFO) and five organizations issued a statement entitled "May 2005 to March 2007 referendums: trouble making, sexual harassment, kidnapping, random arrests to activists and bloggers always under suppression". The statement condemns the continues police practices in Egypt against political activists and Egyptian bloggers who participated in the peaceful sit-in which was organized to stand against 25 March constitutional referendum or provide coverage to its incidents.
