The New Year has begun and the Egyptian government is apparently not going to change its stance towards human rights standards. From the very beginning, the government arrested large numbers of citizens in a broad campaign in three cities suspected of belonging to Muslim Brotherhood group. HRinfo provided its wish list for the New Year as follows:
- To release Al-Azhar University students and to use dialogue rather than the Security Service baton in treating them
- To release the secular blogger Kareem Amer and respect the right to freedom of expression
- To remove the president of Al-Azhar University who gave a negative example of Egyptian chancellors and highlighted a negative image of such respectable university. He acted like a police officer and incited security forces to detain the students whom he is responsible for their safety. In this respect, students who affiliated to the Muslim Brotherhood and students with similar ideas of Kareem Amer are equally regarded.
- The Public Prosecutor to reconsider his policies which are biased towards the demands of the security Services and lack neutrality.
- To protect the life of the political opponent Ayman Nour and to release him even if for health reasons.
- Al-Badiel newspaper to be issued as a new step towards canceling the illegitimate entity named The Supreme Council of the Press.
