Badran and the Prince of Revenge
Duet of Tyranny and Freedom

By: Sherif Helaly
Do you remember the Arabic movie "Prince of Revenge" acted by late actor Anwar Wagdy?! The movie is based upon the famous story of "The Cont of Mont Christo". Another two cinema films were produced upon the same story wherein the hero's role was played by Faried Shawky and Nour Al-Sharief. These other two films are entitled: "Sagacious Prince" and "Revenge Cycle". The best of them is the role of Hassan Al-Helaly who was arbitrarily imprisoned in some historical age; played by the multi-talented artist; Anwar Wagdy. The same story is repeated every day. There are oppressed persons that suffer repression and depressed freedom.

There is also the Waly (Prince) who positioned his own minister (Badran) between himself and the people, in order not to recognize the misery suffered by such people. The movie almost handled our life today. Mogul prison in the movie represented the dozens of prisons in our age; e.g. Tora, Abu Zaabal, El-Kannater, El-Hadra, etc.

There are dozens of freemen and strivers dwelling the prisons of Badran, and other thousands are inhibited in Al-Aadly prisons for decades without trial as the same as happened to Hassan Al-Helaly. The only difference between the movie and the actual events is that the Waly knew not what was happening and the whole responsibility was burdened on Badran. He was the one who built the wall between the governor and the people. However, the prince was pardoned. He was fair and commanded to investigate the violations committed by Badran once the details were told to him by Hassan Al-Helaly.

However; (our own Waly) has definitely no excuses. He knows everything due to the wide spread of massive communication means, security spying on phone calls, Internet, and tens of devices that detect every single move. Despite all this hatred generated in the hearts of people towards our current Badran, he is still the intimate friend of his Excellency our Waly.

He does not commit the crimes of Badran in the movie, excluding the imprisonment of his brother. He does not even kill him as Hassan Al-Helaly did, after his three friends conspired against him with Badran to taking his beloved Jasmine.

Is cinematic Badran as criminal as real Badran?! The former does not arrest thousands in his prisons.

Cinematic Badran's assistants did not sexually abuse dozens of female journalists and lawyers before The Government Castle or The House of Junior Writers. The forces commanded by cinematic Badran did not kill tens of neighbors on Christmas night; just because they were practicing a strike at one of Cairo squares in seek to escape from their miserable circumstances and in protest on what they suffer by the hands of international organizations. Badran did not agonize his protesters and those who have other opposing points of view by pulling them faces down in the streets, just because they said "No!" in the face of the prince. Cinematic Badran was to sympathize with them.

False Badran did not seek to fabricate claims against his protestors as real Badran did. Real Badran fabricated a claim against a chairman of some party to be sentenced for five years due to charges that every one knows how false they are. All this took place just because the accused thought to compete the prince and to criticize his reign era.

False Badran did not kill a woman like Nafissa Al-Marakby due to her protest against those who wanted to take over her farm after sending her out of it.

The soldiers of false Badran used to have much more mercy. They did not maltreat the prisoners of Mogul prison and did not torture them using the most modern torture devices.

The second difference between the scenario and the truth has to do with the fate of Badran. False Badran had been removed by the Waly once his violations are discovered. The prince even commanded him to be investigated and called on his brother to insure the information he learnt by Hassan Al-Helaly.

In the main time; (our prince) gives Badran medals and grants higher positions to be occupied by his staff as a reward for them on their crimes committed against his people.

The prince deafens himself in order not to hear the complaints by oppressed and depressed people, and by the prisoners of Badran of the third millennium. He also neglects the cries of injured persons and the families of killed Sudanese citizens, who were killed at Mustafa Mahmoud square for no guilt.

Our Waly does not think that this matters. Have you seen the happiness drawn on the face of our prime minister while accompanying Badran in his visit to Badran's soldiers who participated in such slaughter? He believes that one of Badran's tasks is to terrify the people and to repress its freedom. Our waly is not willing to listen to tens of calls similar to the call of Hassan Al-Helaly, despite all those arguments and witnesses in his hand. Our Waly is not satisfied to be there for a quarter of a century. He seeks to exceed the record of all contemporary princes of this age. He even desires to leave kingship as an inheritance to his son.

Conclusively; Hassan Al-Helaly in the movie won the battle due to his insistence on acquiring his own freedom and consequently the people are relieved from tyrant Badran. Will we witness that day when we win the battle and gain our freedom by removing tyrant Badran, the waly, and their followers?
