Culture of slaves

Dr. Ahmed Sobhy Mansour
1- under the slogan of honour the father "or brother" kills his daughter "or sister" to wash the disgrace which has nothing to do with the religions or "Sharieaa".

The male at our society proudly declares his sexual relations ,outside the marriage frame, and only females pays the honour bill, other than the criminal male as we only consider honour when it is related to women, opening their legs.

For the sake of Arabic honour the female victim's blood is shed either she was a daughter or a sister, which means the closest person for the killer and the one who deserves his care and protection, at the same time the man runs away with his crime.

At our region killing a female for honour is not a crime but it is excused and considered a way to eliminate disgrace. Disgrace in our culture is not obeying the unfair governor, surrender for him, nor accepting unfair and being patient on it. It is not also a part of our honour synonyms or our social culture such high values as honest, trust, dignity, manhood, courage, devotion to work, or fulfilling promises. This is because such values are being practiced only by a democratic people who practice its right to self-determination. These are the synonyms of honour in the western culture not the Arabic one.

The Arabic oppression is the creator of such culture "slavery culture"
The oppression practiced by the governor over his ministers, by the ministers over their vices , and so it starts at the top and down spread little by little till it pours its hell over the head of the ordinary citizen.

In the frame of oppression culture the upper person oppresses those who are beneath him and shrinks in front of the higher ones, till it comes to ordinary men who finds himself with all kinds of oppression over his shoulders, he finds no one to relieve his anguish and his depressed protest but woman who is , at our culture, his follower.

As this man cannot be honest according to the meaning of real honour - courage, manhood, boldness, keeping promises and vows…etc.-so it becomes necessary for him to bury his honour violated between the fellow women's legs. If one of them violated his honour he rushes to kill her trying to convince himself and the others that he has honour. While this poor man is not aware that his real honour and dignity had been lost long before when he accepted to be a slave for oppression. This wrong concept for honour for the Arabs is one of the bitter fruits of slavery culture. The injustice of the oppressor makes people injustice to each other, and turns injustice into the common culture that even reaches the strangers.

2- the second bitter fruit of such a culture is that we accept the injustice from the relatives or near ones and when some stranger tries to defend us or be good for us we meet his kindness with ungratefulness. Let's begin with what's well known and so common in our culture, the big brother usually seize most of the heritage. Despite the holly right for women stated in the Qur'aan , it is so common in our Egyptian countryside to prevent women of their share in the heritage or some of this share.

According to the Holly Qur'aan preventing someone of his\her inheritance is to be punished by condemning the guilty to eternal hell. "the chapter of Women at the holly Qur'aan verse no.7 and 14". According to any other human fair law this is considered robbery to be punished. As for the human consciousness and the moral norms this is considered meanness when the big brother violates the rights of his younger brothers and sisters. Especially when he is supposed to protect and defend them. We accept such a kind of injustice so normally. What is strange is that the women whose rights are violated - mostly- does not protest against this violation , but forgives the big brother. This what happens mostly from the younger brother, they repeat the same practices of their big bro. and consider it a social right. What is more strange is that when such violation comes from a stranger or a foreigner the anguish and protest will be evoked and people will make all the required procedures to bring back the stolen rights.

According to the holy Qur'aan justice does not discriminate against anyone either because of religious or ethnicity, and does not discriminate between two criminals on the basis of relationship or religion. So holly Qur'aan is talks about the criminal and condemns him for the crime he committed regardless to his being a father or a brother of the victim. Besides this you will find at some books on jurisprudence of Islam that if a father kills his son so he should not be exposed to the penalty of murder "according to them, he was the reason of this son existence, so this son should never be the reason of his father's death" this is for sure a lame logic and a funny one , but it's the Sunni Jurisprudence according to which you will find differences forbid killing on the ground of a homicide as it is not allowed to kill a Muslim if he kills a man who is not Muslim. You can see the same lame logic at the inheritance roles that forbids the sons of a Jew or Christian who converted to Islam from inheriting after his death if they still not Muslims, the money goes to the state, which means to the Muslim governor.

3- According to our culture we practice what we name "measuring with to measures" which we denounce and refuse. We even accuse others to commit it while we do in our culture. You can find it clearly at our proverbs and religious life which is full of lies and practices against Qur'aan and the prophet Mohammed. The Egyptian proverb says "your lover swallows stones for you , but your enemy waits for your mistakes" this has nothing to do with tolerance. If you are tolerant you will tolerate the mistakes of all people regardless to their being friends or not, and you do not discriminate among different mistakes or among different people whether friends or enemies. But the proverb feels deliciousness taste of friends' injustice while it becomes so fierce in front whom it defines as enemies and be so prejudice against him\her and explains all his\her actions according to the conspiracy theory.

Another proverb says "lover's beats is raisins" but if he's not a lover he will be deemed to hell. Another proverb from the Mamluk's era says "the governor slaps are honour" which means if the governor chose you to be tortured ,then he definitely thought of you rather than the other thousands of people, and this is honour in itself.

As a result of such a culture torture crimes continues in our communities and we consider them as a right for the governor and an honour for us. Things stayed just like this till the western thoughts on freedom blew over us along with the western culture on human rights. The different organizations came to our countries trying to spread awareness and pushed us to respect our humanity. The result was that we had organizations -using the western donations and funds- confronting the political torture that is being practiced against the elite. Then we discovered -only recently- that torture is being practiced at the police stations. This discovery came out into light as a result of the western organizations efforts, and finally the call against torture of the innocent people at police stations.

As a matter of fact there are some of us addicted to the slavery culture and describe those organizations defending human rights as conspirators trying to manipulate our slightest affairs and especially the right of our governors to murder and torture whoever they choose as we they are our guardians -may be because we are their inherited animals- so no one of us has anything to do with human rights. Do animals have rights? It's the owner who has the right to slaughter , sell, take care of or feed anyone till it's time to be slaughtered comes.

At the same time -to be faithful- our original culture of devoting torture affected some Americans in Iraq when they occupied one of the largest torture Academies, Abu Gharib prison, and with the encouraging of some Iraqis some of the Americans practiced torture, this Arabic technology, but the American press disgraced them and the unmerciful American public opinion denounced this. There began investigations, apologies from Bush and from the military ministry. All these incidents assured that it is not their culture even if it is well known and familiar at the middle east. Amongst this the criminals were introduced to court and proved guilty. What did we do regarding this? We defamed USA and its brutality in torturing people and forgot ourselves, it's us who use double measures.

4- The religious and ethnic minorities at our region are exposed to different degrees of discrimination, but it stays in the dark to the degree that the Iraqi massacres against Kurdish stayed unknown for a while, the massacres which is similar to what happened in Darfur. The later case in which the west interfered to fulfill justice and defend the innocents ,but we accused them with interfering in our inner affairs and trying to conspire the Arabs and Muslims.

This happened when the USA interfered to aid the African and Muslim victims at Darfur, against whom the Arab and Muslims executed their massacres. even we tried to forget the American role protecting Kosovo Muslims from mass elimination at the hands of the Christian Serbians as we are not supposed to tell any of the advantages of the west. On the other hand we scream when on of the Fundamental NGOs complains, even if not true, that it faces discrimination amidst the Muslims communities in America. At the same time when Ibn Khaldoun center suffered so much along with his director Saad El-dein Ibrahim when he opened frankly the minorities file in the Arab world. When he asked for justice and not to discriminate against them , just then he had been exposed to discrimination and moral assassination for his character , many intellectuals and governmental fellows and some of those who claim to be nationalists or Arabic nationalists and also the fundamental Wahabbists. All those are helping flourishing the slavery culture.

5- slavery culture is a very bad coin with two faces one of them is submitting to the unfair relative and felling happiness with his injustice either he is a father, a bother or a governor. The second face is the hatred for the other whether he is a foreigner or anyone who is different, just because he is different. The foreigners begin here inside , we consider the different people, in religion, ethnicity, thoughts, language as foreigners , and the concept expands to include the stranger foreigner outside the country and the region. the more the differences among us, the more this foreigner is strong , the more we hate him whatever he does for us. This applies to the USA and the west , if America does any good for us then it is conspiracy , and if the American government seek its people's interests - which is the duty of any government outside our region- we fire the attacks against the American president because he does not work for the interests of our Arabic peoples. This happen at the same time when the inner governor commit whatever he likes of the crimes and finds many defenders and explain all its shameful actions and policies in the frame of the American Israeli conspiracy. You will just need to revise quickly the previous proverbs to discover how matching they are to this case. When the governor beats us , its our honour and we swallow anything for the sake of lovers but we wish if the USA would commit mistakes. Whenever America disappoints us we pour our oppression ,helplessness and failure on it. We cannot be able to punish the governor her so we try to punish the USA.

6- Slavery culture is what converts a normal person into a tyrant governor if he had the chance to reach the chair. When he is a governor he finds that such a culture pegs him to be a tyrant. This is how some criminals and distorted and after they oppress their peoples after their culture gave them the chance to be gods or semi-gods amongst communities believe in one god.

When Sadat tried to look for a vice-president he did not find but Mubarak. During the Naser era Sadat gained his trust through submission and when Naser felt that there is no danger expected from Sadat he appointed him as a vice president. Just after he got the chair he removed the name of Naser totally and disgraced him , he wanted a silent vice president without no ambition or innovative thinking so , Sadat found Mubarak, the militant who only execute orders as any employee seeks to please his master and that's all. this was the first coincident , the second was after Sadat's assassination , Mubarak become the president of the biggest Arab country. Mubarak himself did never imagine himself at such a position and never seek it , such a position was beyond his ambition and capabilities. This appeared during his first years on the presidency chair so he declared that he is going to be the president for one course and stated that he is not that good at delivering speeches. But as Amro Ibn El-As said, Egypt is the pet of any rider or as the proverb says "the country of those who ride" . this means that the slavery culture facilitated this for such a person with humble capabilities such as Mubarak. He was encouraged and continued the first, second , third and fourth presidency period till the chair became a part of his ass and stuck to it. He can no longer sit anywhere else after being so aged. This happened because of corruption robbery, stealing, hunger, oppression, torture, renewing and inheriting which made thousands of the Egyptians call for Mubarak to leave this position but he refuses although he hears the curses of the people.

In Iraq Saddam Husein showed off , just a criminal gangster had the chance to reach the presidency chair. He spread corruption all over Iraq ant other countries which obligated the international community to interfere twice to save Iraq and its neighbors from "the Arabic Holaco" when he recently appeared at his underwear the slaves became angry and considered the picture a snap for the Arabic Honour. The question here is what kind of honour which is stuck to Saddam , the biggest assassin in the recent history. More over he was the meanest, and worst military leader in the recent Arabic history. All his victories were because of his militant campaigns against some weak categories of the Iraqi community. He killed, destroyed violated all the rights and demolished. As a historic researcher I admit that he is the worst Arab Muslim leader I ever read about during my whole life. He became a hero according to the Arabic concept of honour. If we had the Western concept of honour such people as Mubarak and saddam would nefer reached their chairs even for one day.Honour at the western concept means honesty truth, dignity, courage and the ability to sacrifice for the sake of justice and freedom. This is why the Europeans gone through wars continued for centuries , the last one was the WWII to get red of the tyrants. At the same time we were here telling any leader "with souls and blood , we redeem you Abbas" and when Abbas fell down we left him and returned back to slavery culture who think with their feet.

7- the most shameful in this regard is that slavery culture is still common amongst some of the revolutionaries against that tyrant Mubarak. This popular revolution came as a result of NGOs work and pushes towards freedom ,human rights and democracy. Those NGOs are supported by the western countries and America. The USA did not stop at this point it interfered in Iraq to remove the Arabic Holaco whom the Iraqis did not manage to remove him. It empowered the Iraqis and made them able to run the first real democratic elections which brought the first president who is not Arabic to govern Iraq. The elections prepared Iraq to be the leader of democracy in the Arab World and , despite the terrorists attacks , the enemies of god and the prophet. This American effort succeeded and accompanied with pushes to the whole region especially Egypt and Saudi Arabia, to adopt political, social, educational and economic reform. The American speech was directed to the live forces at the region to push it towards demanding reform to sprout from inside and cut the way for those who refuse the orders to come from outside.

Because of this American encouraging the patriotic movement moved against Mubarak so the security system and the Egyptian police acted as usual and beat the demonstrators and sexually harassed the females. So America interfered and gave orders to the pharaoh to stop hurting innocents , so he got frightened and applied the proverb, "people do not be ashamed, they only got frightened" the security officers stopped harassing and beating the demonstrators so the Egyptian demonstrations became- after the American interference- a right because of which the demonstrators should not be punished. After the Rice trip to Egypt and declaring her support to the national Egyptian democratic movement demands, and pushed the Egyptian pharaoh the scope was widened for this movement to grow ,develop and give hope in a democratic peaceful reform.

I am so afraid for such a peaceful of the behavior of some Egyptian leaders -especially the Nasserists - who are still prejudice against the American role and criticizing Rice's interference for the favour of the homeland and consider it interfering in the inner affairs according to the slavery culture. It is supposed that the patriotic Egyptian movement confess the positive American role , not only because of that free people used to confess the favour of those who've done it. And not only because it is moral religious values to thank those who introduced their help and to owe him favour but also to encourage the American side to exert more effort and provide more help and aid to shorten the era of oppression and the nightmare which continued more that quarter a century.

The external American policy is not a charity institution , but it is an expression of the American interests in the regions. And recently the USA discovered that its interest is to get red of the tyrants of the middle east countries which produces terrorism. The result of such terrorism was so clear in September attacks. So America have to build democracy in the middle east region. This won't be fulfilled unless there is awareness that pushes the citizens to be free and willing to sacrifice for freedom. It means that there must be a democratic culture instead of the slavery culture, which is an inner mission executed by the intellectuals and free people of the region accompanied with outside efforts.

But if the opposition leaders were against USA and denying its efforts and refusing the help, can we wait for the stretched American hand to still there in the air to shake hands with those who refuse it? They made Mubarak- with such an attitude- to win in advance. As the American hand that was stretched to order him to leave did not find revolutionaries to shake their hands. So they gave the old dictator hope to stay , as they want to give the patriotic movement some time to mature and become worthy of the free democratic culture.

8- The values and morals of the holly Qur'aan refuses the slavery culture and its rotten fruits. Justice in Islam does not mean double measures. It says the truth even if it hurts your own parents and the nearest people to you "Women . verse 135" "Anaam, verse, 152" and the religious values orders to say the truth even if it is in favour of your enemy "the table, verse "8" This kind of justice is connected to peace , regardless the your enemies attitude you are not allowed to violate his rights as long as he did not attach you "table , verse "2". And when your enemy makes you some good you should thank him and confess his favour, and if he salutes you, you must reply with a better salute "Cow , verse 237" "women, verse 86"

What is strange is that the American policy while encouraging democracy and exiling tyrants , it expresses the real soul of Islam. At the same time Islam contradicts the tyranny and its effect in rooting the slavery culture.
