Around the Civil Society, Foreign funds and Sarando
In a situation of social, popular movement targets real changes and democratic reforms, and retains a part of the freedom and rights violated during the past 25 years; the government didn't find a way to avoid more protests and refusal to the security tyranny climate but the "Musa stick" or the foreign funds. Aiming to make the people too busy to continue their demands and struggle for democracy. The major role in this play was for some NGOs accepted funds from the American embassy in Cairo.
Although the majority of the Egyptian NGOs refuse any funds from governments, especially the American Government which has double faces concerning human rights issues, and although some of the NGOs who used to accept such funds began to re consider their situation, it seems that the last governmental campaign is well arranged this time. The government used new means such as accusations of spying and betrayals for the civil society institutions especially human rights activists in the mosques.
And as usual the government used its regular means to tackle the issues that rage it , they used the police solution supported by some media channels which is considered the easiest and most practical solution. Some of those who wanted to gain some governmental support began to accuse HR NGOs on their newspapers and magazines which made some faithful writers discuss the matter of foreign funds which made the main issue for the Egyptian people which is the change, disappear. The main enemy now began to seem the foreign funds instead of the tyranny, torture and governmental corruption.
But the fake campaign which is about to finish revealed the desire of our regime to keep the situation as it is corruption, tyranny and dictatorship, in a world where there is no place but for the democratic countries and respecting the peoples' rights and will.
Although the position of the writer of this article is against the governmental funds just like tens of Egyptian NGOs but we see that the real threat on Egypt is continuing torturing people either in Arish or Sarando or police stations.
The real threat is punishing the civil society for revealing the terrors of the political police called "state security" in Arish and against human rights activists and falsifying accusations against them. Also the torture beginning by the pharmacologist Gamal Abdul Fattah, ramez gehad and reaching Ayman Nour.
The real threat is continuing the Emergency situation tens of years falsifying the elections, from students' unions elections to the parliamentarian elections.
Yes the governmental funds are dangerous but not as dangerous as the hidden funds from the Arab governments to create fake media campaigns around fake issues to elude the people and attract attention to cases other that their own issues and problems. Among which the constitutional reform and real democratic reform, far from the current climate of tyranny corruption and torture.
The civil society is not a group of angels and has its mistakes and faults but this civil society was the one who shed light on what's happening daily inside the police stations and the collective punishment for Arish people also the corruption- tyranny coalition in Sarando.the civil society is also the defender of human rights.
The civil society is not involved in hidden normalization such as those who repeat slogans of anti-normalization and organize trips to tell Aviv. The civil society is not involved in torture and then comes to repeat allegations of defending human rights.
We criticize some practices of the civil society and we are part of it, we accept criticizing and dialogue, but its better for that government to give the model for respecting the people' rights and will instead of depriving them from the simplest rights and making of the ministers and officers a higher class.
When the internal minister punishes his officer whose hands are polluted with the torture victims' blood we, just then, can understand his motives of such a speech. When the parliament is in favour of the people not of falsifying facts and elections, we can understand and discuss them.
When some journalists stop their hidden normalization, falsifying facts and supporting the tyrant regime, we would understand their criticizing and discuss them.
When some NGOs declares their fund sources from the Arabic governments we,
only then will be able to discuss then. When the National Human Rights Council resigns protesting on emergency law and torture citizens of al-arish and Sarando, we will discuss them and accept their criticizing. When the law tailors stop making laws on the size of that person or the other we can understand their critics and discuss them. Such person do not have the right to criticize or discuss us, it is the right to the Egyptian people for whom we are working closely to make a new Egypt without torture or emergency.
The Egyptian citizen is our target that will last forever and he is the majority.
Gamal abdel-Aziz Eid
The executive director of The Arabic Network for Human Rights Information.
