Book's Title: The Guillotine and the Pit. Problems and Solutions

Summary: This 710-page study documents the situation of the freedom of expression and the Right to form associations in Egypt in 2002/2003. It is composed of 11 chapters that discuss the different several aspects affecting the freedom of expression and its evolution. The 1st chapter tackles the economical, social and cultural aspects, while the 2nd chapter presents the constitutional situation of the freedom of expression in the 1923 Constitution and the 1971 Constitution. The 3rd chapter demonstrates the Egyptian legislations governing the freedom of expression and the attitude of the Egyptian State's Council towards its cases. As for the Egyptian press, the 5th chapter presents an overview of its obstructs in 2002/2003. the 6th chapter deals with the freedom of expression in cinema, and the legislations governing this branch. The 7th chapter tackles the role of the religious censorship, constituted in Al-Azhar Institution, on freedom of expression and how it limited the freedom of creativity during this period. The 8th chapter deals with the right to associate and the absent freedom of parties. The last two chapters deal with the right to strike, the right to peaceful gathering and the right to demonstrate.

    Book's title: Torture, Necessary Countering

    Summary: The 389-page legal study deals with the situation of the individuals' civil and political rights within the Egyptian legislations. The study is composed of six chapters, the 1st chapter tackles the right to life, the right to safety of person, the right to private life and the right to movement and travel within the Egyptian legislations in comparison to the International covenant of Civil and Political Rights. The 2nd chapter deals with the restrictions put on the freedom of expression in Egyptian laws. The 3rd chapter shows the situation of the right to Peaceful gathering, the right to freedom of association, and the right to form and join trade unions. The 4th chapter deals with the right of the individuals to take part in the conduct of pubic affairs, and the 5th chapter tackles the rights to fair trial, justice and the related articles in the ICCPR. The author concludes the study with the demonstrating the family laws and the situation of women's rights in the 6th and last chapter.
