Name of the Book : Which democracy they mean?
Author: Monsef Al Marzoky,
Physician and a human rights activist calling for democracy in Tunisia and the
Arab world.
Abstract:
The most hectic point in the American project to impose democracy in our region, is the system model to be imposed on us. It is as if the peoples are led to paradise while being shackled. In the middle of the twentieth century, some Arab countries experienced that model represented in a center of economic liberalism surrounded by a parliament system based on a non-sense conflict upon personal interests.
That model was the maid wife of military coups against agent systems worked for foreign interests and worked on the spread of social suppression in their countries. Since the same reasons gives the same results, we can say that in case the American administration can impose it democratic model, it will be a transitional period between two dictatorships.
It is the time for Arabs to not only reject the foreign project but also to formulate their own one. It is time to have our national vision of democracy, that is adding not imitating, liberating not misleading. A democracy that we impose upon ourselves not to be imposed by others on us. This is to keep our dreams far from confiscation and not to make the democracy a cover for the new suppression and a gate for the old suppression.

Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies
Abstract:
Under the title of “What future is waiting for the democratic change movements in the Arab world?” a workshop was held by Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies on May 19,20 2007. About 60 participants of human rights activists, academics, writers, intellectuals, journalists and bloggers, from 8 Arab countries (Egypt-Syria- Tunisia- Morocco- Sudan-Bahrain-Saudi Arabia- Iraq) and 4 European countries (France-Ukraine- Serbia-Slovakia) handed a number of research papers comparing the Arab world experience in democratic change with the same in Eastern Europe’s. The comparison did not aim at imitating the European or any other experiences, but the aim was to answer the question: why did the European experience succeed while we did not? The answer revealed many special and common factors that may lead to critical thinking to reach the solution for the suppression problem in the Arab world. Motivated by a deep analysis, we can reveal the suppression factors and how to get rid of it.
The report contains the digest of the discussions and research of the workshop. The digest reflects a diversity in views but at the same time we can touch the ambiguity and confusion regarding a fundamental issue; namely the democracy.

Abstract:
This booklet is the third report of Nadeem Center for Psychological Therapy and Rehabilitation of the Victims of Violence. It tackles the torturing and institutional violence phenomenon in the period between 2003 and 2006. Such period also witnessed escalation in two kinds of policies and limitation in one hand and practices and security violations on the other. The first kind is represented in the continuity of application of the emergency law and the increasing involvement of the military tribunals in cases which should be treated by the ordinary civilian tribunals, and the spread of torturing. The second kind is represented in the tendencies of suppression and its forms which are not new but it became more common for security systems use.
